LONDON, ON, Nov. 12, 2021 – Huron University and Scotiabank today announced a strategic partnership to help more students gain access to university and build their portfolios as emerging leaders.

Scotiabank and Huron University share a commitment to developing a generation of caring, civic-minded leaders and making post-secondary education accessible to all.  Scotiabank’s $1.5 million community investment will create and support two new programs aimed at helping students access and deepen their education.

The two programs are:

  • The Scotiabank Scholars Program: Aimed at high school students from marginalized backgrounds and newcomers, this program helps to break down barriers by creating educational pathways for students. Specialized training provides students with the opportunity to learn new skills and gain eligibility for one of five full scholarships to Huron annually.
  • Scotiabank Career Accelerator Program (CAP): The Scotiabank CAP program is open by application to all Huron students to help them build their career confidence and distinguish themselves as workforce-savvy emerging leaders. The program complements a Liberal Arts education by helping students build professional and technical skills, map their career goals and gain real-life experiences through volunteering, mentorship and internships. Scholarship recipients of the Scotiabank Scholars program will be automatically admitted into the CAP program.

“Scotiabank is committed to making investments that strengthen our communities,” said Brian Porter, President and Chief Executive Officer, Scotiabank. “We are very proud to be partnering with Huron to provide even more young people with the tools to improve their education and employment prospects, and achieve their ambitions for the future.”

Scotiabank’s donation supports five years of programming, which will impact approximately 400 high school students, and award 15 full scholarships and 250 Scotiabank CAP certifications.

“Huron is thrilled to partner with Scotiabank in our mission to develop a generation of leaders with heart,” said Dr. Barry Craig, President, Huron University. “This donation will have a tremendous impact on our students by setting them up for success after graduation, and on high school students by giving them the confidence and exposure to a post-secondary education that will open up countless doors.”
