LONDON, ON – Huron is preparing to welcome its largest first year class this September, having received a dramatic increase in offers accepted, the highest percentage among all universities in Ontario.

Earlier this month, the Ontario Universities' Application Centre released its most recent statistics, measuring the changes in application and offer confirmation in undergraduate programs across Ontario universities from June 2022 to June 2023.

While data shows high school student applications for Ontario universities is down slightly, Huron is continuing to flourish – being amongst the highest in percentage growth. This includes:

  • Students choosing Huron as their first choice in applications from Ontario high school applicants increased by 66.9%, the highest of all Ontario universities**
  • Total offer confirmations increased by 43.1%, the highest of all Ontario universities**
  • Achieving record number of offer confirmations and expecting to welcome a first-year class of 647 students, a 40.35% increase from Huron’s last record increase (with 461 first year students) in 2018

Explaining the reason for this dramatic growth, Huron University President and Vice Chancellor, Dr. Barry Craig said, “I believe that our mission of promoting Leadership with Heart resonates with students. There is a crying need for this kind of leadership today in the world. Huron appeals to students who want to be challenged academically, but who also want to make a positive contribution to society. Huron offers a university experience that prioritizes ethics, leadership, and civic engagement, preparing students to lead with both a good mind and a good heart.”

“Huron University continues to be a compelling choice for students driven by our shared vision of Leadership with Heart. With a focus on delivering top-quality academics and a transformative university experience, Huron empowers students to excel and stand out upon graduation,” says Linea Strong, Director, Recruitment. “Our commitment to educational excellence, coupled with a vibrant and inclusive community, has fostered a deep connection with ambitious scholars seeking to make an impact on society.” she adds.

Unwavering support from Huron’s holistic support team - from application to graduation, an industry leading Career Development Centre, and Huron’s mission of creating a more accessible admissions process are some of the factors which have led to this growth, as published in an article reviewing admissions numbers released this past March.

In response to this growth, Huron is in the process of building a new residence space, set to open in fall 2024 with 311 student rooms. This will be Huron’s largest residence space to date. It will also assist in responding to the highly publicized widespread housing shortage facing Ontario students.

“Our team has worked closely with incredible students, families, and educators to find the best and brightest students, and we cannot wait to welcome this incoming cohort to campus in September.” says Linea Strong.
