Admission Requirements

Huron has one of the highest entering admission averages among Canadian institutions. Not only do we admit students that are top of their class academically, but students that take initiative to better their communities and demonstrate their commitment to being a Leader with Heart. Through the application process, students are able to show their contributions outside of the classroom, in addition to their academic record.

Our Admissions Team work one-on-one with our applicants throughout the entire application process. Please don’t hesitate to email or book a virtual counselling appointment with us if you’d like personalized assistance with any aspect of the application process.

Visit the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) website to begin your application. Huron programs are listed under Western University. However, to ensure your application is submitted correctly and received by our office, it is important to make sure that you have applied to the correct program application code. Huron’s OUAC program application codes are:

The Huron Internal Application

Is Huron the only university you’re applying to in Ontario? You maybe eligible to apply using Huron’s Internal Application. This application requires a non-refundable application fee of $75 CAD.

This application is open only to students who are not applying to any other Ontario university. Do not use this application if you have already applied to any university using the OUAC website. International University Transfer

Individuals applying as transfer students must have achieved a minimum overall average of 70% in all previous university studies at an accredited degree-granting institution and have experienced no extensive academic difficulty to be considered for admission.

If you are attending university and are in first-year, a conditional admissions decision may be made based on strong first year, first semester results and a strong final secondary school average. If you are in second year or higher, you will be considered for conditional admission on the basis of a mid-year transcript.

Post-secondary transcripts from any and all post-secondary institutions attended are required.  Academic transcripts must be submitted directly to Huron from the institution(s) attended. If your documents are issued in a language other than English, you must also provide notarized literal English translations.

Transfer credit may be granted for courses completed at another accredited university with a minimum mark of 60% (in the context of Huron’s grading scale) in each course to be transferred. These courses must be recognized as covering an acceptable amount of subject matter and meet the academic standards of Huron.

The Admissions Office and the Chair of the program to which the student has been admitted shall have sole jurisdiction over the granting of transfer credit.

Note:

  • Credits granted may be either generic/non-specific credits or exact equivalency credits.
  • Courses from universities outside of North America must be individually assessed to determine if they are eligible for transfer credit.
  • Official course descriptions or syllabi including credit hours, year level of study and description of course content including text(s) used will be required to assess your credits for transfer. A copy of both the original and a certified copy of the English translation (where applicable) is required.
  • Courses from a recognized accredited international university will be eligible for transfer subject to degree, grade and program requirements when there is an essential equivalency in course content.

I’m interested in Huron’s HBA dual degree program with the Ivey Business School, how do I apply?

When applying to any Huron program on the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) or through the Huron Internal Application, you will have an option to check off a box that indicates your interest in applying for Ivey’s Advanced Entry Opportunity (AEO) status as well. You must check off this box when completing your application to Huron.

After you have submitted your application to Huron, you will then need to complete a supplemental application for Ivey AEO status at ivey.ca/hba which is due on January 13, 2023 at 4 PM Eastern Standard Time (EST).

If you do not apply for or receive AEO status to Ivey when applying during your final year of high school, you may also apply for the Ivey HBA program during your second year at Huron.

To learn more details about the Huron – Ivey Business School Dual Degree program, please click here (PDF).

Are IB Certificate students or IB Career-related (CP) program or BTEC Students eligible for admission to Huron?

Students enrolled in these programs are not eligible for direct admission to Huron unless they are also receiving an accredited high school diploma program upon graduation. To confirm the eligibility of your high school diploma’s accreditation, please don’t hesitate to contact a member of our team below.

I am interested in pursuing a Major at Huron, in addition to a Major at Western. Do I need to submit two separate applications to each program?

You do not need to submit two separate applications in this case. You can simply apply for the Huron major you wish to pursue. If you are admitted to Huron and choose to enroll, during Summer Course Registration sessions, your Academic Advisor will work closely with you to help you build your schedule in a way that aligns with your interest in pursuing a double major.

For example, a student interested in pursuing a double major in Management and Organizational Studies and Computer Science, would apply to Huron’s Management and Organizational Studies program only and then simply enroll in the required first year classes for both majors during Summer Course Registration sessions.

Since Huron is part of Western University, and all Huron students graduate with a Western University degree, Huron students can take up to 40% of their courses in other faculties at Western, allowing them to combine their Huron program with select other courses offered throughout the Western campus.

To confirm what program combinations are available, please contact your International Admissions Advisor.

If I receive updated transcripts and improved results later in the year, after I already submitted my application to Huron with my previous transcripts and results – how do I submit my new, updated transcripts?

If you receive new transcripts or updated results throughout your school year, you are welcome to email these new documents to admissions@huron.uwo.ca – once reviewed, we will be able to advise you on any changes to your admission or scholarship status.

Do I need to submit an English language proficiency test when I apply to Huron?

If you have studied for a minimum of four years (including your final year) in an institution where the language of instruction is in English, you are not required to submit an English language proficiency test.

I am eligible for admission based on my academic results; however, my English language proficiency test score is below Huron’s minimum requirements. What options do I have with regards to admission?

If you are eligible for admission to Huron based on your academic results, however your English language proficiency tests do not meet our minimum requirements for admission, you may still receive a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) to Huron with a condition to enroll in an English Second Language (ESL) program at one of Huron’s language school partners listed above, before beginning your Huron program. No separate application to the ESL program is required, simply apply to your desired Huron program using the instructions above, and you will be automatically admitted into the ESL program you require based on your English language proficiency test scores.

What is the deadline for submitting my English language proficiency test score?

Students should submit all required document before the deadlines listed on this page, based on the Round in which they are applying to.

However, if you retake an English language proficiency test after submitting your initial application, you are always welcome to email your new test results to admissions@huron.uwo.ca – if you achieve new test results which are higher than your previously submitted test results, we will review your new results to determine if you are eligible for direct admission to Huron or a shorter ESL program. If eligible, we will issue you a new Letter of Acceptance (LOA) confirming your new admission status.

As long as you have submitted your initial English language proficiency test results before the required deadlines stated at the top of this page, we can continue to accept new, updated English language test results from you until June 1, 2023.
