Was your last academic year tough? In your first year and want to set yourself up for success? Thriving at Huron is a Wellness Services initiative aimed at supporting students to thrive, academically and personally. Build motivation, optimism, and resilience, along with learning strategy essentials like time management and effective studying.

Thriving at Huron welcomes all students, including those on academic probation, students with disabilities, mature students, international students, working students, and students raising or caring for families. We welcome racialized and marginalized students, Indigenous students, equity-seeking students, LGBTQQIP2SAA students. If you are ready to take a new approach to living and learning, we encourage you to attend Thriving at Huron.

  • Thriving at Huron is a 6 week drop in program in partnership with Library and Learning Services. Check out the schedule below and attend what resonates with you:
    • Building Habits and Mindful Time Management – October 12, 1-2pm
    • Grit and Study Strategies – October 19, 1-2pm
    • Optimism and Confident Test Taking – October 26, 1-2pm
    • Reading Week – November 2
    • Finding Flow and Mindful Technology – November 9, 1-2pm
    • Gratitude and Powerful Presentations – November 16, 1-2pm
    • Compassion and Group Work – November 23, 1-2pm
    • NOTE: Thriving at Huron will take place in the Huron library.
  • Thriving at Huron is Co-curricular record approved if you complete 3 of the 6 sessions.

Open your mind. Manage your stress. Learn mindfulness & meditation.

Koru Mindfulness® is an evidence-based curriculum specifically designed for teaching mindfulness, meditation, and stress management to university students.

Wellness Services welcomes all students to participate in this in-person, 4-week mindfulness program.

The Stress-Less Group is a 4-week drop in group specifically designed to meet the needs of university students. Students will have the opportunity to learn about stress and anxiety as well as develop practical skills and strategies to better manage difficult feelings and help them cope with the stressors of both school and life.

Stress-Less will be offered January 17-February 7, 2024 from 2:30-3:30pm. Drop in when you can!

Note: Stress-Less is Co-curricular record approved if you attend 2 of the 4 sessions.

Students may experience a number of common challenges or stressors throughout the year. Wellness Services hosts a variety of activities and workshops to promote mental health and wellness literacy and to encourage our students to consider how they can care for their whole selves and develop the resilience and self-care strategies that will carry them beyond their years at Huron.

September - Social

Developing a sense of connection, belonging and a well-developed support system. Making meaningful connections with people by taking an active part in your community and maintaining positive relationships.

November - Emotional

December - Spiritual

Expanding a sense of purpose and meaning in life. Fostering a sense of inner peace and harmony while participating in activities that support one’s beliefs and values.

January - Financial

Satisfaction with current and future financial situations. Understanding your financial situation and your relationship with money, so you can make sound decisions.

February - Physical

March - Occupational

April - Environmental
