Associate Professor, Japanese

Sawako Akai, PhD
Japan, with its aesthetic, cultural and social intricacies, is a beautiful place that Huron students have the opportunity to explore through our Japanese program.

My courses will help students develop linguistic, cultural and social knowledge about Japan and its people. Together, we will explore the archetypes and nuances that shape Japanese culture and make it so entirely unique to the Western world. While studying the enticing differences between what we experience in the western world versus what those living in Japan may know and love, students will also begin to recognize the undeniable similarities between our cultures.

A refined understanding of these trends, regardless of where your personal and professional life takes you, will better prepare you to be an effective global citizen and leader in workplaces that prioritize and protect the vibrancy of diverse thought and cultural difference.
