Dr. Barry Craig, Huron’s 17th President, reappointed to second term
Dr. Barry Craig, Huron’s 17th President, has been reappointed to a second five-year term, which will see him continue as President of Huron until 2026.
Under his leadership, Huron has increased its enrolment by 50 per cent in just three years, while becoming an increasingly more diverse community with a strong international student presence. Huron Board Chair, Ian Jeffreys, says the board is pleased with the reappointment, adding Dr. Craig’s first term brought unprecedented positive change to Huron’s community.
“Dr. Craig exemplifies the many attributes of a Leader with Heart,” Jeffreys said. “We are thrilled to have him lead our outstanding faculty and staff as they truly make a difference in the education and lives of our students and in the transformation of Huron into the leading liberal arts university in Canada in the years ahead.”
During Dr. Craig’s first term, academic standards have been raised, with the minimum entrance average for admission rising from 78 per cent to 83 per cent in the past two years. Additionally, Huron will be making a major announcement next month that will see this university’s campus forever changed for the benefit of current and future students, faculty and staff.
When Dr. Craig arrived on campus in July of 2016, he knew Huron was a special place.
“The dedication of our faculty and staff is of a kind that I have never witnessed in my four decades of involvement with university education,” Dr. Craig said. “The unique education that Huron offers, a combination of traditional liberal arts, management training and an exceptional focus on experiential learning, truly sets it apart.”
Since Dr. Craig started, the Huron community has witnessed record application numbers over the last few years, including a doubling of the university’s first-year class in the fall 2018.
“This coming year, our applications have grown even more dramatically, reflecting a recognition across Canada and internationally that something remarkable is going on at Huron,” Dr. Craig said. “Our minimum entrance average is one of the highest in the country and this has resulted in attracting exceptional students from every Canadian province and large numbers of talented applicants from around the globe.”
The Huron community is excited to have Dr. Craig for another 5 years to continue Huron’s mission of challenging students to be Leaders with Heart.
“I am delighted to have received an invitation to lead Huron well into the next decade,” Dr. Craig said. “I can’t wait to see what amazing things our faculty, staff and students will do next.”
