Established in 1863, Huron is the founding institution of Western University and one of Canada’s oldest universities. Our distinctive business, liberal arts and ethics-based learning environments offer elite yet accessible education where personalized learning experiences position students for leadership and professional success, while also developing their character.

Huron is completely unique to post-secondary institutions in Canada. We recognize the best way for students to learn is through one-on-one mentorship provided by world-renowned professors, who take the time to understand how they can support your life’s ambitions. Our small class sizes enable these types of environments by ensuring our faculty members are able to concentrate on each individual student – and nurture their unique gifts.

In addition to cultivating an exclusive and prestigious small-knit community, Huron’s buildings and residences are located in the heart of Western University’s campus. That means, Huron students also have full access to all the resources, recreational activities and athletic facilities of the wider campus. Plus, when you graduate, you will receive a Western University degree – with a much-deserved Huron distinction.

We know the world is hungry for principled leaders who have the integrity to solve problems with wisdom and justice. This is why, at Huron, our commitment to educating Leaders with Heart is woven into every aspect of our academics, social community and student life. We are the only university in Canada committed to ensuring each & every student experiences the value of civic engagement through community-based learning, volunteer activities, research and travel study.

From guaranteed paid internships for every single student through to personalized one-on-one academic and career development support, Huron will help position you for the attainment of professional prestige and a rewarding philanthropic and personal life. Learn more about why Huron, Ontario – and Canada more broadly – are the best possible choices for your international learning experiences.

Its all about you

The Huron Experience is truly one-of-a-kind.  While most universities take in thousands of students every year, Huron selectively limits our annual incoming cohort to around 500 students each year. Even though we keep our community strategically small, we ensure they are truly representative of our global community, and we welcome exceptional young leaders from dozens of countries all over the world to our campus each year. This means, the average number of students in your classes will be 30 rather than 300, 500 or 800 like most other undergraduate programs. Plus, our staff to student ratio is double the national average. For us, the quality of your experience will always be more important than merely increasingly the quantity of our students.

Why do we do this? Because it’s all about you. At Huron, you can expect a premium undergraduate experience. Our staff and faculty will know your name, not just your student number. We will know your story and are personally invested in making sure you achieve your goals and maximize your potential.

Research: Investigate Topics That Fascinate You

HURON IS COMMITTED TO PROVIDING STUDENTS WITH RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES BECAUSE SUPPORTING THE CREATION OF NEW KNOWLEDGE IS THE WAY TO MOVE OUR WORLD FORWARD.

With our excellent professor-to-student ratio, our students work in close partnership with faculty on research projects of their own choosing, or faculty can include students in collaborative research initiatives, conferences and publications. These elite experiences help students build an impressive portfolio, positioning our Leaders with Heart for success in post-graduate studies and the vocations of their choice. In-course projects and research mentorships with faculty are offered in almost every department. Huron’s Centre for Undergraduate Research Learning (CURL) brings together students, faculty, staff and community partners to support highly engaging, immersive research experiences – locally and globally.

Huron students can publish their research in Liberated Arts, the university’s interdisciplinary journal for undergraduate research. The journal’s student editors also learn skills in academic publishing.

Is your university accredited in Canada? Will my degree be recognized internationally?

Yes. We are a public university and an official member of Universities Canada. Students in all of our programs will graduate with a Western University degree.

Ranked as one of Canada’s Top 8 universities (QS World University Rankings), means your degree will be recognized in Canada and around the world. As well, Huron has a reputation as one of Canada’s oldest institutions and the prestigious leadership positions Huron alumni have held in business, government, law and more in Canada and around the world are well known. Our alumni mentorship program will connect you with our alumni in leadership roles in organizations and sectors of your interests to help you take advantage of high-level connections and fast-track your search for a career post-graduation.

Do I need Math in Class XII to receive admission to your Management and Organizational Studies program?

No. You can enter our Management and Organizational Studies (Business) program without having Math as one of your subjects in Class XII. This is because we have a Math class in the first year of the program that you can take instead.

As an international student, can I work in Canada during my studies at Huron?

Yes. You can work part-time (up to 20 hours per week) during the school year (on or off campus) and full-time during a schedule break (up to 40 hours per week).
Our summer breaks begin in May and continue until the end of August. You do not need a work permit to work while attending Huron, as your study permit gives you permission to work as long you are enrolled in full-time studies.

As soon as you arrive, during our International Students Welcome Week, we’ll personally take you to a local Service Canada office so that you can apply for a Social Insurance Number (SIN) which you will need to start working in Canada. Then, you will have your own dedicated Career Development Advisor at Huron to help you navigate the world of employment in Canada, prepare your CV and Resume, practice your interview skills and connect you to jobs on and off campus.

What is the relationship between Huron and Western University?

Huron was founded in 1863 by Benjamin Cronyn and Isaac Hellmuth. 15 years later, Isaac Hellmuth founded Western University in 1878. Huron is the founding institution of Western University.

Huron is a “university within a university” – as a student here, you are fully a Western student: you can access all facilities, amenities and events throughout the Western campus and you will graduate with a Western University degree. However, by being at Huron you will have the benefit of uniquely small class sizes of 30 students on average and studying at an institution that specializes specifically in liberal arts and business. On top of the campus-wide opportunities, you will also have exclusive access to Huron’s special programs: such as more student clubs and extra-curriculars, paid internship and alumni connections that are available solely for Huron students. You will also be eligible for scholarship opportunities dedicated exclusively to Huron students as well as enjoy our own Residence buildings, which are mainly single rooms rather than shared, double rooms. Our residences are also the perfect location on the Western University campus: Huron residence buildings are the closest ones to the University Community Center (UCC) – the social, recreational and dining hub of Western University.

What makes Huron different?

We have remained strategically small to ensure faculty and staff can provide personalized and caring environments that nurture our students’ individual gifts and position them for the best-possible university experience.

We refuse to conform to the trend that attempts to devalue a Liberal Arts education because we know diverse and balanced course offerings endow our students with transferrable skills best prepare them for the modern job market.

Our university prioritizes character development, as much as academic excellence, so when you leave here, you’ll have the knowledge, skills and passion to actively shape the world.

All of our classes are taught by professors, not teaching assistants, so your classroom experiences, from lectures to grading, will always be consistent and you’ll have the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships with people who want to positively influence your future.

We’ve established local and international partnerships that set our students a part: we are Ontario’s only Harvard Business School Online partner and we also offer the dual degree program with Ivey Business School

I’m interested in Huron’s dual degree program with the Ivey Business School, how do I apply?

When applying to any Huron program on the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) website, you will have an option to check off a box that indicates your interest in Ivey Advanced Entry Opportunity (AEO) status as well. You will then need to complete a supplemental application for Ivey AEO status which is due on January 15, 2021. If you do not apply or receive AEO status to Ivey when applying during your Grade 12 year, you may also apply during your second year at Huron. Please click here for more details.

I’m interested in applying to multiple programs at Huron, do I have to submit multiple applications?

Huron admits students to a general first year, so you only need to apply to a program once. For example, if you’re interested in both Accounting as well as Finance & Administration, only apply once to the Management and Organizational Studies program.

My school will not release my predicted or mid year results until later in the school year, when should I apply?

Applications for September 2021 are now open. We highly recommend you apply as soon as applications open so that we receive your basic information and educational background. Then, whenever transcripts from your school are available that indicate your senior year predicted and/or mid year results, simply upload them to your Huron Application Portal.

What are the important deadlines I need to know?
  • Ivey Business School Advanced Entry Opportunity (AEO) deadline – January 15, 2021
  • Huron International Presidential Scholarship deadline – February 12, 2021
  • Recommended Application Deadline for International Students – April 1, 2o21
