Program: Bachelor of Arts Specialization in Psychology and Major in Linguistics
Title of Experience: Food for Friends Volunteer
Associated Organization: The Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington

Not only does volunteering provide a rewarding experience for yourself, as you build new experiences, teammates, and skills, but you are also giving back to important members of your community. Volunteering is vital for providing strong, inclusive, and resilient communities, to create a healthy and happy society. I have found that a balance of extracurriculars not only lends a holistic aspect to my lifestyle, but also gives me tactical skills that I can apply to all aspects of my life, whether it be for personal, academic or career goals.

Meet Niamh, one of the recipients of the Janet Stewart Volunteer Service Fund and The Waugh Family Volunteer Service Fund awards in April 2022. Niamh is a volunteer with the Food for Friends at Home initiative with The Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington. As a volunteer with Food for Friends Niamh supports a series of tasks during her weekly shifts, which includes preparing fresh produce and other food items into food kits for delivery to community members in need. Niamh’s experience as a volunteer allowed her to ensure the community had access to healthy meals that in turn provided children and youth with a positive start to the day and fuel to improve their learning abilities, while also encouraging healthy eating habits.
