Admission Requirements for Transfer Students

Each year, Huron welcomes transfer students from other post-secondary institutions who would like to continue their education or turn their diploma into a degree. Huron will automatically assess for transfer credit at the time of admission.

APPLICANTS FROM COLLEGES

To be considered for admission to first-year, applicants from a college must present one of the following:

  • Minimum cumulative average of at least 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale in two or three-year Diploma program
  • Minimum cumulative average of at least 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale in a one-year General Arts and Science Certificate program

Applicants from a college who have completed a two-year or three-year diploma with a cumulative average of 3.0 or better will be considered for transfer credit (advanced standing) to a maximum of 5.0 courses or a full first year.

APPLICANTS FROM UNIVERSITIES

If you have attended another university, you will be considered for admission as a transfer student provided that you have achieved a minimum overall average of B- (70%) in all previous university studies with no extensive academic difficulty, and you have graduated from high school or equivalent with an acceptable academic average.

If you are attending university and are in first year, you will be considered for admission based on your final transcript. If you are in second year or higher, you will be considered for conditional admission on the basis of a mid-year transcript.

Students without a high school diploma and who are not 21 years of age or older must have credit in at least five full university-level courses in order to be considered for admission.

Huron will assess transfer credit at the same time that we assess your application for admission. Academic courses in which a grade of C or 60% was achieved will be reviewed for transfer credit. Courses must be deemed to be at the first year university level or above to be eligible to transfer. Courses deemed equivalent to secondary school courses will not transfer but may be considered for prerequisite purposes by the appropriate department.

Students wishing to come to Huron as a Visiting Student on a letter of permission from their home institution should visit the Western Visiting Students Website.
