Part-time Instructor of Chinese Literature

The Chinese Program of the Department of French and Asian Studies invites applications to teach two 0.5 Chinese Lterature courses for the upcoming academic year (2020-2021): Chinese 3652F (Chinese Discourse on Women and Gender Relations), offered during the first semester; and Chinese 3653G (Women in Chinese Society: Images in Literature), offered during the second semester.
Calendar Descriptions of the Courses:
Chinese 3652F: The course offers a close reading of male and female writings on women's roles and gender relations in Chinese society. It examines the various normative principles that describe and impose boundaries on women's political and social practices. Taught in English.
Chinese 3653G: The course examines the roles of women in Chinese society reflected in literature. Texts of different genres and historical periods, with emphasis on the narrative forms of the imperial era, will be read to explore the changing images of the female paragon and the femme fatale. Taught in English.
Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Chinese Literature; evidence of successful teaching of Chinese Literature courses at the university level; native or near-native fluency in Chinese and English.
